8 Healthy Habits of Healthy People

Through my own health and fitness journey, I’ve learned that when you create healthy habits, you’re able to create a healthy lifestyle. I’ve also learned that creating a healthy lifestyle is a million times easier when you have the support system and resources you need.  

I’m going to let you in on a little secret – health and fitness have not always been important to me. When I was in college I considered walking to class my workout. I cared very little about what nutrients went into my body. I ate out constantly and rarely made healthy choices. I drank heavily and ate a ton of greasy late night food. I gained a ton of weight and constantly tried to ignore the problem. In retrospect, I think I used alcohol, food and a party-loving attitude to hide the fact that I wasn’t happy. I wasn’t happy with how I looked or how I felt – mentally or physically.

Eventually, I discovered a passion for my health and fitness. I was able to create habits and routines that helped me rediscover myself and lose 30 pounds twice – including postpartum! Through my own health and fitness journey, I’ve discovered that taking control of your health is done by creating healthy routines that become habits.

Part of our daily routine is taking our daily vitamins. To give our bodies the best opportunity to be in the best shape possible, it’s important to give our bodies the nutrients it needs. Hitting your daily water intake is so important! When you have a hydrated body, you have a happy body. As parents, we know how important it is to set a good example for our daughter. I used to HATE working out. And then I had a daughter and the Coast Guard moved our family to a tiny island in Alaska where I became a first time stay-at-home Mom. The gym quickly became my only “me” time and a big stress reliever. I began to see the physical and mental benefits and my disdain for working out quickly turned to love.

I love to track my fitness and adjust my goals accordingly. Since I am currently pregnant, I’m not able to do this as much as I’d like. However, having a fitness tracker helps me feel like I’m keeping myself accountable by making sure I move. Pack Snacks

When you’re pregnant and have a three year old who is ALWAYS hungry, you learn to pack snacks wherever you go. Even before I became a Mom, I always packed a protein bar or fruit with me. Hunger strikes quickly and can lead to making unhealthy choices if you’re not prepared.  

I love being able to buy the larger snack boxes from Sam’s Club. It saves me a trip to the store and I’m getting much more for my money. I always keep a Fiber One bar in my purse for myself and a Quaker Chewy Granola Bar for my daughter.

    These are all such great tips. I used to hate working out, but now I’m on restrictions from my doctor until my daughter is born and I am CRAVING a good sweat! I’m definitely focusing on these other areas, though, like drinking plenty of water and a healthy breakfast (which I used to NEVER be good at)!

    Snacks are so important when you have little kids around. We always try to bring something healthy to eat because our littlest one wants a snack every hour!
