Investing in yourself is an extremely important part of your mental wellbeing. As a stay-at-home-mom you give so much of your time to everyone else in your family. I know I do. But one thing I’ve learned is that in order to be the best mom and wife possible, I need to invest in my own sanity and happiness. I love my family and they make me incredibly happy. However, I believe it is essential that investing in ourselves is essential to us being better mothers and wives. There is nothing wrong or selfish by wanting to better yourself! By bettering yourself, you are bettering your family.
Go back to school – Are you wanting to finish your degree or a certification program? Find your passion and go for it! When we move, I’m planning on completing the Yoga Teacher Training program. I wish I could do it in Kodiak, but there’s no resources unfortunately.
Workout – Find a gym that offers childcare and give yourself an hour of time to only worry about you and your body. My workout time is what gives me sanity. This is normally the only hour of my day that I have to myself to focus on myself. Working out has given me mental and physical fitness that no one can take away from me.
Start a Business – Do you have a skill or talent that you could capitalize on? Start an etsy shop selling your crafts or start a blog! Blogging has become an outlet for me, but also a small business. Check out my post HERE on tips to starting a blog.
Buy a fabulous outfit – Sometimes you just need to TREAT YO’ SELF. I mean because let’s be honest, as stay-at-home mom’s we worry about everybody else and take care of everyone else before we even think about ourselves. Sometimes a new outfit can work wonders on our mood and our self esteem. I personally, love shopping at PinkBlush. It can be dressed up for date night or down for a walk on the beach with my family. It’s definitely going into my suitcase for vacation in a few weeks!
Have “me-time” – Giving yourself time for yourself is the best medicine! Spend 30 minutes doing something you enjoy every day, even if it’s only sitting in silence. Learn Something New – Is there something you’ve been wanting to try but keep putting off? I know there is for me. I often use the excuse that I don’t have the time, but there is always time if you make time. Invest in yourself by allowing yourself to learn new talents.
Set Goals – Every month we set new goals for our family. I also set them for myself individually and for my blog. I don’t always slay my goals, but I sure try to. By setting an intention, I’m more mindful and work harder.
Organize Your Life – The more organized things are, the less cluttered you are mentally. I notice that when my house is a wreck, I feel like I’m a wreck. If there is a problem or something on my to-do list that needs to be knocked out, I try to do it as soon as possible so that I can relax.
Do What Makes you happy – Give yourself a break and allow yourself to do something that makes you happy, whatever that may be. Being happy with yourself will have a domino affect on your family. A happy Mama = a happy family.
