Discovering Our Town: Old Woman Mountain Hike

Matt’s parent’s spent last week visiting us from Cape Cod. It was SO nice having family around and we had such a fun time! Madison loves getting extra attention and she absolutely loved having her Grammy and Skippa love on her all week.

Since Matt’s Mom and Dad were visiting, he took the week off from work so that we could spend the maximum amount of time with them. Because of Matt’s duty schedule, he usually has to work at least one day out of the weekend, so we haven’t had the opportunity to explore as much as we would have liked. Luckily we had amazing weather this week and were able to finally start discovering our town, while playing tour guide!

On Monday we decided to go take a hike up Old Woman Mountain. We decided to try this hike because we had heard it was an “easier” hike but that the views were still gorgeous. This was a hike that our whole family was able to enjoy, even Riley! Since the path wasn’t too steep we were able to place Madison in the baby carrier and wear her. I love being able to baby wear her because even at 9 months old she’ll still nap when we wear her. I don’t think I’d consider this an “easy” hike like we were told, but it did have a clear path and wasn’t TOO steep. We brought Riley along and she seemed to handle the walk up better than any of us. I can’t say enough how nice it is to be in a place where we can bring Riley along for our outdoor activities.

Once we got to the top of Old Woman Mountain, the views were breathtaking! It was amazing seeing Kodiak from 3 miles above. Kodiak is such a naturally beautiful town. It’s very untouched and that makes it so special and amazing! If you live or vacation in a town where you can hike, I highly suggest trying it out with your family. Not only is it an amazing workout, but it’s a great family activity as well. It really helps me appreciate the natural beauty that God created. It also makes you feel so accomplished at what your body is capable of doing! After our hike I was exhausted but felt so empowered at the same time. This is definitely something I want to do more of during our time in Kodiak.
