Amazing Tips to Help Stick To Your Diet That Actually Work

Amazing Tips to Help Stick To Your Diet That Actually Work

This post was sponsored by Optimum Nutrition as part of an Influencer Activation and all opinions expressed in my post are my own. The New Year will be here before we know it! Are you setting New Years Resolutions to diet or to start a new fitness regimen? Normally this is the time of year where I like to reflect on my eating habits and fitness regime. The holidays can sometimes make it hard to stick to a diet and the New Year is always a great opportunity to make a fresh start!  Normally, I love to use the New Year to increase the intensity on my workout routine. However, this year I’m under doctors orders to CHILL (more on that in a blog post on a later date) and to only do very low impact exercises. So, while I can ramp up my fitness regime as part of my New Years Resolution, I am able to concentrate fully on my diet.  For the most part, I eat pretty healthy throughout the year. Today, I’m going to share some amazing tips to sticking to your diet that actually work! They’ve continued to work for me, and I know they will for you too!  Meal Prep Taking a few hours on Sunday (or whatever day works for you) to cook and store your food for the week will make the biggest difference in your nutrition. When I meal prep, I’m not only eating healthier, but I’m controlling my portion sizes and I’m less apt to give in to a cheat meal because I already have a meal prepared. Meal prepping my food has been an absolute game changer for me.    Pack Healthy Snacks No matter what is on my busy agenda for the day, I find that when I pack snacks to bring with me, I’m less apt to give in to cravings or eat something bad for me. I love to keep Optimum Nutrition Protein snacks in my purse for when hunger strikes. These snacks are gluten free, high in protein and delicious. I love that I’m able to easily carry them with me, no matter where I’m going.  I’ve even been able to snack better during the holidays thanks to Optimum Nutrition! I love that Optimum Nutrition offers a large range of flavors and snacking options. Optimum Nutrition offers protein crips, protein almonds and protein cake bites. Normally, I’ll carry a variety of snacks – like the cinnamon roll protein almonds or the red velvet cake bites – to get togethers with friends or even holiday functions to help me avoid sugary, high carb alternatives and to help me stay on track to reach my fitness goals. I’m also a very active person. I love to go on hikes and work out. I always bring along a Optimum Nutrition Protein Crisp for when I need a boost of energy or to cure my hunger.  I love that I’m also able to easily find Optimum Nutrition at Walmart at an everyday low price! Drink a Glass of Water Before Eating Often time we think we’re hungry when we’re really just thirsty or dehydrated. This is a great tip to not only ensure that you’re fully hydrated but also to add water to your stomach to help you not overeat.  Avoid Sugary Drinks Sugary drinks often lead to other sugar cravings, which could derail your diet.  Track Meals I use a phone app to help me track what I’ve eaten for the day. I like to stick to certain macros and if something I want to eat fits into that then great! This helps me stay on top of my diet plan as well as planning out my meals for the week.    Related Posts:3 Mouthwatering Desserts Your Party Guests Will LoveTips to support your overall health4 Easy No Bake Truffle Recipes for Your Next Holiday Party

why every family needs a dog

Why Every Family Needs a Dog

Disclosure: This post was sponsored by Purina. All thoughts, opinions and my love for the brand are my own.  When I was a kid, my family always had cats. We were on-the-go a lot and my parents felt like we couldn’t give a dog the attention that it deserved. I was in high school when this little pug/terrier mut kept showing up on our doorstep. It was a neighbors dog who was in and out of the hospital. He was so sweet and instantly stole all of our hearts. We would take care of the dog when he’d show up and then bring him back to the owner when he returned home. Eventually, the owners health was declining and he gave our family the dog. “Chance” was our first family dog, but he left an imprint on all our hearts and showed us just how genuinely loving, sweet and fun dogs can be.  Luckily, I met and married a man who loves dogs just as much as I do. A mere three months before I got pregnant with our daughter, we picked up a yellow lab puppy that we named Riley. Riley was rambunctious, didn’t listen well and was really only sweet when she was sleeping. But we loved her anyways! Through lots of training, love and a lot of growing up Riley is now the sweetest dog who listens and is extremely tolerant of our now three-year-old daughter.  Riley was our first “baby”. She taught both my husband and myself a lot about responsibility before the real baby came. She’s been my constant companion when my husband’s military service has him leave town and she was the one who licked my tears away when I struggled at first to adjust to living in Alaska. Now our Riley is the best hiking buddy, the one who we rely on to scare the bears away (it’s a literal problem here) and Madison’s best friend! It fills my heart to see how much these two love each other and just how they play together.  In celebration of Thanksgiving and the National Dog Show, Purina wants to invite dog owners to share why they are thankful for their pet by using the hashtag #DogThanking and tagging Purina on social media. The National Dog Show Presented by Purina, which will premiere on Thanksgiving Day on NBC at noon across all time zones, will crown one of America’s great dogs as its 2018 champion, bringing canine competition and entertainment to America’s viewers for the 17th year. From November 9-25, Purina will donate $1 (up to $25,000) for every unique post shared on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram that includes @Purina and #DogThanking,  to Tony La Russa’s Animal Rescue Foundation Pets and Vets program. This amazing program pairs trained shelter pets with veterans as they transition back to civilian life following their service. As a military wife and dog lover – I am proud to support such an amazing cause! Our dog is such a happy light to our family. I honestly believe every family should experience the joy and love that a dog has brought to us! Do you already have a family pet? Don’t forget to share a photo on social media sharing why you’re thankful for them with that hashtag #DogThanking and by tagging Purina! This is for an amazing cause that will help support our Vets!      Related Posts:3 Steps To A Healthier Family9 Family Matching Pajamas

Ways to Stay Active This Winter

5 Ways to Stay Active During Winter

This post was sponsored by Reebok as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own. I love to stay active but it can be so much harder to stay active in the winter. I’m a warm weather, summer-loving girl. But I’m also the type that loves to stay active and busy – no matter what the temperature outside is. Living in Alaska has taught me that even when the weather is cold, there are still ways to keep moving and get my heart rate up.  No matter what kind of activity I have in mind, my new Reebok Classics from Shoe Carnival are perfect for it! I love that the Reebok Classic is so versatile. It’s fashionable, yet supports my foot extremely well that I’m able to wear it to workout as well. I may have even climbed a mountain in this shoe!  These are the activities I do to keep myself active, even during Winter.  Walks There are tons of pretty cool trails and hikes to walk in Kodiak. We are lucky to have no shortage of mountains and beautiful scenery around us. But with that said, the weather can definitely impact our outdoor activities. While I love hiking, due to the snow, ice and bears (a real threat here) I normally stick to hikes that have a well defined path that I am already familiar with. There are also several walking trails that are pretty shielded by trees that we can walk, even if it’s raining lightly. Even if you don’t have walking trails near by, just walk in your neighborhood! I love wearing my Reebok Classics on walks because they are so supportive on my feet. I have a lot of issues with my right foot and a lot of walking/pressure can sometimes make it hurt, but when I wear the Reebok Classics my foot felt supported and comfortable. Take a Fitness Class I love to workout, but I thrive in a class environment. I give in way too easily to excuses when I’m working out by myself. Taking a fitness class with a scheduled time, really keeps me accountable. I also love being surrounded by other’s who are encouraging each other and trying to reach a common goal. Taking a fitness class not only pushes me to get to the gym, but it also pairs me up with like-minded women who help me reach my full potential.  During the colder months, it can be hard to complete a run or workout outside. During the summer I love hiking or going for a run with my husband, but that really isn’t an option for us during Winter. There are so many gyms and fitness studios that offer flexible schedules and probably have a class that is perfect for your workout style! I was even able to wear the Reebok Classics to a Bootcamp/Cycle Combo class! I felt supported through squat jumps, burpees and even through sprints on the spin bike.    Community Activities Check and see what is going on in your local community! Is there a 5k race going on? Or a Relay For Life event that allows you to walk to support cancer? Or maybe even a seasonal parade? These are all great chances to be active, but they’re also an amazing opportunity to support your community.  Activities with Kids Even short walks to the park, wagon rides or taking your little one’s to the ice rink is a great way to stay active! Our local recreation center has a few days a week where they have “toddler time” where they have a bounce house and we can bring bikes/toys to play with in the gym. As a toddler mom, this is still a way to keep your toddler active – and Mama! Not only are you getting everyone out of the house but Mom is probably getting her heart rate up while chasing her little one’s around. Or atleast that’s what happens to me!  Beach Visits While I realize not everyone has this option, we all can find a place outdoors that we love to explore. My toddler, Madison, absolutely loves going to the beach! We have a really cool beach by our house where we can watch airplanes take off from the close-by airport, collect seashells and see an abundance of wildlife. The salt water air always relaxes me and makes me feel better too. I can even wear my Reebok Classics on these walks! Even with our black sand, I was able to easily wipe these clean for my spin class the next day.  Make sure to head to Shoe Carnival to purchase your own Reebok Classics!

How To Improve Dry & Damaged Hair

How To Improve Dry and Damaged Hair

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Sally Beauty. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I have naturally curly, wavy, frizzy, messy hair. As much as I hate using heat – to get the look that I want, I have to use it. Luckily we live in a time where there are products that help protect our hair from possible damage. If you even use heat products to dry your hair, it can cause dry or damaged hair. I know we all want to look our best, especially with the holiday season approaching – which is why I’ve put together a hair routine that will help repair and protect your hair from damage. Shampoo/Conditioner Routine I picked out Wholesome Plus Oats & Honey shampoo and conditioner from Sally Beauty. This shampoo and conditioner combo has quickly won me over! To begin with it’s extremely affordable, especially when it comes to the many benefits that are contained in these two bottles! The combination of oats and honey helps lock in moisture while strengthening hair follicles. My hair can get really dry and after using this my hair feels soft again. Oats and Honey also help treat irritated scalps. Whole Plus Oats and Honey shampoo and conditioner from Sally Beauty is perfect for someone who may have dandruff or eczema. You can find Whole Plus Oats and Honey at your local Sally Beauty or by shopping online here. Leave-In Conditioner Did you know that even after using a conditioner in shower, your hair can still need extra moisture added? I currently am obsessed with Texture ID Intense Moisturizing Leave-In Conditioner! Like I said before, my hair gets extremely dry. Since I use a lot of heat on my hair, a moisturizing leave-in conditioner is a must. I’m loving Texture ID because this specific leave-in conditioner is made for my specific hair type. All of my other curly haired ladies know that it can be hard to find a leave-in conditioner that doesn’t weigh our hair down. This is it, ladies! You can pick Texture ID Intense Moisturizing Leave-In Conditioner from your local Sally Beauty or by shopping HERE. Deep Moisture Mask A moisture mask is a great way to revitalize once or twice a week. I love to use Guacamole Whip Deep Moisture Mask that I found at Sally Beauty. When I first opened this mask, I thought it smelled too good to work. I mean, anything that smells THAT good, has to have a downfall, right? Wrong. This mask made my hair feel soft, luxurious and down-right amazing. This moisture mask contains avocado, which tastes almost as good to your taste buds as it does your hair. Avocado is full of vitamins B & E and is an amazing conditioning treatment for your hair. You can find Guacamole Whip Deep Moisture Mask in store at Sally Beauty or by shopping HERE. Heat Protection Before applying heat to my hair, I always use Texture ID Thermal Multi-Styling Foam. This heat protectant helps protect hair up to 450 degrees. This is a lightweight formula that can help shape and define curls while also adding a boost of shine! The Thermal Multi-Styling Foam is made with aloe vera which helps calm frizz while also locking in moisture. Argan oil and honey help guard against damage while producing beautiful curls! You can find Texture ID Thermal Multi-Styling Foam in store or by shopping online here. Anti-Frizz Serum After I style my hair I love to use Superfood Anti-Frizz Serum! This serum is loaded with shea butter, which helps tame the frizz and flyaways. A combination of Manuka Honey and Omega 3-6-9 help nourish and add shine to your beautiful locks. You can find the Superfood Anti-Frizz Serum in store or by shopping here. No matter how I style my hair, I always use these 6 products! These products use natural ingredients to help nourish my dry hair back to life, while still being affordable. Are you looking for a new hair routine? Head to Sally Beauty for a little help! You can now save 20% off purchases of $40+. Some exclusions may apply. Use code 888574 Valid now through 11/15/18 at Sallybeauty.com.

Tips to support your overall health

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #CollectiveBias #NatureMadeWellness Now that I’m a stay-at-home mom, I literally get no days off. I can’t call in for a sick day and my daughter never slows down, no matter how bad I’m feeling. So, I do everything in my power to help support my overall health.  With the holidays coming up, no one wants to miss out on holiday parties or date nights out. I’ve learned to follow these tips to help support my immune health and to keep my myself in check so that I don’t miss out on anything this holiday season! 1) Get 8 Hours of Sleep Sleep deprivation can suppress your overall health. This is one of the many reasons why it is so important to get your 8 hours of sleep each night. Sometimes sleep doesn’t come easily, which is why I keep Nature Made® Melatonin Adult Gummies on hand for when I need to regulate my sleep.†  Nature Made® Melatonin Adult Gummies help reset your sleep/wake cycle and provide 2.5mg of Melatonin.† My little girl needs this mama to be well rested and healthy in order to be present during our days! 2) Take Daily Supplements Last year I went to the doctor, because I was absolutely exhausted. I couldn’t figure out what was going on. I went to the doctor for blood work and my vitamin D levels had completely bottomed out. I’ve always taken vitamins, but this really showed me just how important they are to our overall health.  Nature Made® Vitamin D Adult Gummies contain 2000 IU of vitamin D3 per serving. D3 is the body’s preferred form of Vitamin D.* Vitamin D helps support immune health as well as bone, teeth and muscle health.†  I’ve always taken Nature Made® supplements from Walmart and love taking gummies over pills. Nature Made® Vitamin D Adult Has is certified by USP for purity and potency, so you can be confident that you’re receiving the nutrients you need!  3) Hydrate Drinking water helps remove toxins from your body. Even better, by drinking water you can help prevent toxins from building up.  4) Follow a Healthy Diet A healthy food diet full of vitamins and nutrients can help support your immune health naturally.  5) Work Out Did you know that regular exercise is a natural way to help support your immune health? When you sweat, your body releases toxins, which is a way to improve your immune health.        † These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. These products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. *Vitamin D3 is more effective than vitamin D2 at raising and maintaining adequate levels of circulating vitamin D in the body.†                     Related Posts:Amazing Tips to Help Stick To Your Diet That Actually Work4 Easy No Bake Truffle Recipes for Your Next Holiday Party3 Mouthwatering Desserts Your Party Guests Will Love

Quick and Easy Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup

Easy & Quick Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup

This post was sponsored by Better Than Bouillon as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own. The weather in Kodiak this week has been so cold and rainy. I’m talking non-stop rain and 40 degree weather.  It’s been pretty miserable, but that’s just how the winter is here.  This morning I woke up craving homemade chicken noodle soup. My mom would always make this on cold winter days when I was a kid, so making it is almost like bringing a little bit of “home” to Alaska.  This homemade chicken noodle soup is savory and the perfect addition to a cold night or as a pick-me-up when you’re sick. You can even make a big batch and freeze it for when those sick days happen! While this recipe is pretty easy to make, there is a secret ingredient that sets this homemade chicken noodle soup aside from the rest. Instead of using store bought chicken broth, you make your own using Better Than Bouillon Roasted Chicken! Don’t be intimidated by how hard this may sound, it’s actually extremely easy to make!  Better Than Bouillon is a paste concentrate that is equivalent to broth or a bouillon cube. It can be used to make a stock broth or used as a marinade to add to your favorite dish. Or in my case, it’s used to make the most amazing chicken broth! Better Than Bouillon is different than bouillon cubes that may not dissolve all the way or may taste gritty. In this recipe, Better Than Bouillon quickly transforms to a chicken broth that is bursting with flavors!  You can even enter below to win a $50 Visa Gift Card or a Better Than Bouillon Variety Pack through November 5th. Better Than Bouillon Sweepstakes I-C will randomly select winners from all program entries and will facilitate fulfillment of the winning prizes 9 winners.

*Vitamin D3 is more effective than vitamin D2 at raising and maintaining adequate levels of circulating vitamin D in the body.†                     Related Posts:3 Mouthwatering Desserts Your Party Guests Will Love4 Easy No Bake Truffle Recipes for Your Next Holiday PartyAmazing Tips to Help Stick To Your Diet That Actually Work
