Summer staycations are becoming more and more popular. When most people think of summer, they think of vacations, leaving town and the stressful situations that could potentially follow. The news is always filled with horror stories about cruises gone bad or rentals that look much different in person than online. So why not plan an epic staycation that eliminates the stress, is still fun and saves you money!?!
Since my husband is in the military, he’s away from home a lot. Since the summers are transfer season, and it’s the busiest time of year for his job, he can only take a few days off at a time. It’s extremely expensive to fly from our tiny Alaskan Island, so when the Coast Guard allows, we plan a staycation!
A staycation can be everything that your vacation would be, without the stress.
Be a Tourist
Explore new parts of your city or town that you may not have explored before. We like to stay pretty active and spend our time outdoors when we can, but we also have a toddler that we want to include. We like to pick family friendly activities like exploring new beaches, going on hikes, going on a boat tour, checking out local museums, etc. Every town has a special story and ways you can be entertained or even create your own fun. If you’re not sure what activities your town may offer, call your local visitors bureau and find out.
Try New Restaurants
Or even hit up an old favorite. If you don’t want to cook every single night you’re home, then go out to eat. Try the new Thai restaurant in your neighborhood or browse the internet for a new local favorite. What better time is there to try something new than when you’re on staycation?
Plan a Picnic
You can go to a favorite beach, park or even just have a picnic in your backyard! When our daughter goes to bed, my husband and I love to head to the front porch (where the baby monitor reaches) and have a little picnic of our own. Keeping it simple is key! Sometimes we’ll make jalapeño pimento cheese sandwiches or buffalo chicken dip, both of which pair perfectly with RITAS! RITAS just introduced a new party pack that includes Lime-A-Rita, Straw-Ber-Rita, Mang-O-Rita, and now limited edition Pine-Apple-Rita. These RITAS are so good, you’ll feel like you’re on vacation.
Buy – Don’t Make – Your Drinks
Since staycation is just like vacation, this means you don’t have to work hard, which also means you don’t need to waste time making complicated drinks. RITAS will give you the taste of vacation with one pop of the bottle top.
Play What’s In Your Phone
I always find this game to be entertaining and hilarious. No matter how long you’ve known someone, you can learn something new just by playing this game. All you have to do is check your phone for the items on the list. Whoever has the most points at the end wins! This is a fun game that you can play at a barbecue with friends or even on the porch with your significant other while sipping on your RITAS.
Don’t forget to print off this free printable so you can play yourself!
Host a Barbecue
Make a simple dish like honey barbecue ribs, hamburgers or hotdogs. Ask your friends to bring a side dish to make things less stressful and easier on you. Don’t forget to supply the RITAS! RITAS are always better with friends and a barbecue is the perfect time to let loose, enjoy your freedom and introduce your friends to RITAS. RITAS even has a brand new Pine-Apple-Rita that is only available this summer.
Make sure you take a picture of your Pine-Apple-Rita (Pine-Apple-Rita must be in photo) and post it on social media with the hashtag #ritascontest. You can learn more about this contest and it’s awesome prizes (Did someone say a trip to HAWAII?) HERE.
So just because you don’t go on vacation, it doesn’t mean you can’t taste like vacation.
